Preventive Maintenance Engineer (PM Engineer)

Summary of the role:

To provide on-site preventative maintenance and support for customers with maintenance agreements with the company.

Success criteria:

The successful candidate will have a proven record of engineering service support and working experience of performing PM work in the CCTV, Access Control and Intruder industry.

Key responsibilities:


  • Confirm all cameras are working correctly using a cherry picker or platform where necessary.
  • This includes checking auto iris levels, pan and tilt motors/drive belts for wear and tear, and that limit stops are set correctly as well as cleaning lenses, viewing glasses, outside of dome covers and housings.
  • Confirm all monitors, DVR's, controllers and auxiliary equipment work correctly.
  • Visibly inspect door equipment and tighten any loose fixings, including magnetic locks and door closers.
  • Remove glass from the break glass units to ensure door is overridden, replace the glass if cracked or broken.
  • Check the correct operation of a valid and invalid card, using different time parameters.
  • Wedge the door open and confirm indication of door open alarm.
  • Check any auxiliary fire override facility operates correctly.
  • Test the intruder alarm where possible.
  • Use a multi meter to check charging voltages and loading readings of batteries and power supplies.
  • The engineer should check that the client is sufficiently conversant with the operation of the system and on completion will complete entries in the system log book giving brief details of the extent of work carried out any any faults identified which require later rectification.
  • The report will be returned to the FSS office where any outstanding faults will be logged for attendance by a service engineer.
  • The report will then be forwarded to the customer by the admin team.

Service Engineers

Overview of the role:

To provide on and off-site corrective or preventative maintenance and offer technical support solutions for customers with and without maintenance agreements with the company.

Success criteria:

Essential skills for this role good timekeeping; smart appearance; organised with a positive attitude; a good eye for detail along with good customer relations skills and an ability to communicate at all levels.

The successful candidate will have a proven record of engineering service support and working experience of performing PM work in the CCTV, Access Control and Intruder industry.

Key responsibilities:


  • Respond to customer call-outs.
  • Evaluate and resolve problems.
  • Provide correct technical reports of completed actions on visits via PDA and get these actions signed off by the customer on site, liaising with the service desk at the same time.
  • Assist with the installation of equipment, surveying and commissioning sites.
  • Attend customer's sites on pre-planned PM visits arranged by the FSS Service Admin Team.
  • Provide advice and guidance to customers on correct maintenance and operation of their equipment.
  • Adhere to the customer's site health and safety requirements on all visits and report attendance to site security and facilities teams where appropriate.

Experience/qualifications:


  • Maths and English GCSE
  • Computer skills incl. Excel, management of IP systems
  • Passed ECS Health and Safety Assessment
  • IPAF QualifiedCity and Guilds/NVQ/HNC Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering qualifications
  • Relevant security industry product and manufacturer training qualifications/courses

Installation Engineers

September 2015

Summary of the role:

To install CCTV, Access Control and door entry electronic security systems.

Success criteria:

Essential skills for this role good timekeeping; smart appearance; organised with a positive attitude; a good eye for detail along with good customer relations skills and an ability to communicate at all levels.

The ideal candidate will be eager to learn and committed to supporting the Install team.  There will be a requirement to work overtime and some overnights within the UK and overseas. The individual must be prepared to work with minimum supervision as well as being able to work as part of a team.

Key responsibilities:


  • Adhere to all Health and Safety requirements and regulations
  • Install CCTV, access control, door entry security systems, intruder alarms to specified standards
  • Read job sheets, specification documents, and site plans
  • Where required, solve practical problems, detect and repair system faults
  • Participate in meetings with site teams and within own company environment
  • Complete all paperwork (including time sheets and expenses) to specified standards and submit by stated deadlines
  • Keep the office team updated of job progress and provide them with technical support when required
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned on an as needed basis

Experience/qualifications:


  • At least 3 years working as an electrician/installation engineer
  • Passed ECS Health & Safety Assessment
  • Hold a valid driving licence
  • Must pass a security vetting check
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
